TransModified- Considerations for Piercing Transgender Clients on Hormone Replacement Therapy
This class is designed to be a technical biology class that delves into the changes caused by Hormone Replacement Therapy, from bottom growth and shrinkage to skin changes to hair growth and loss. Attendees will learn the basics of the endocrine system and the role hormones play in puberty and the development of our bodies. We’ll look at how the use of hormone replacement therapy can affect almost everything on the body, and learn to account for these changes when piercing. There is a focus on troubleshooting and unique approaches for piercing transgender clients, reviewing common irritations and issues that can arise for piercings from HRT. We will also cover the gender affirmation element of body piercing, and how piercing can be used as an element of transition.
Attendees will learn how to create safe spaces in their studios and implement gender-affirming care practices into their bedside manner and everyday piercings. This class is instructed by Lynn Loheide, a transgender nonbinary professional piercer of 12 years. Attendees will be able to hear their firsthand accounts of navigating and managing piercings as their body changed on HRT.
